  As defined by the Planetary Health Alliance, Planetary Health is "a solutions-oriented, transdisciplinary field and social movement focused on analyzing and addressing the impacts of human disruptions to Earth’s natural systems on human health and all life on Earth."   Modeled after the U.S. State of the Union address, SOTPHU underscores AJPH’s commitment to advancing democracy in public health by fostering inclusive discussions that amplify the voices of communities most impacted by public health policies.

  A New Way to Respond to 9-1-1 Calls in Ramsey County

  Not every 9-1-1 call is the same, some require police, fire, or medics to be sent while others can be resolved with the help of a public health responder or other professional. Ramsey County's Appropriate Responses Initiative (ARI) centers partnerships with community to develop new responses to 9-1-1 calls to better meet the needs of callers. Learn more about what ARI is and the responders that support resident needs.

  The theme for this year’s breakfast forum series is all about working outside the box to tackle some of our most difficult and persistent issues that directly impact public health. This requires public health professionals to work with non-traditional partners to ensure basic needs of people are met and sound policies exist to achieve optimum health for all Minnesotans.

  The forums will be in-person at New Brighton Community Center. Check-in and a light breakfast begin at 7:30am. Forums begin promptly at 8:00 am and conclude at 9:30am.

  We often hear about the lack of resources needed to address mental health issues but often it is after some tragedy has occurred.   Mental Health Mass Communication: Using Messages to Relieve the Plight of People with Mental Illness

  Goal: The conference aims to bring together students and scholars to create and disseminate knowledge about mental health mass communication.

  
  

  Description: Mental health mass communication has the potential to effectively promote mental health in the general population, reduce the stigma of mental illness, and encourage people affected by mental health challenges to seek professional help. However, success requires extensive insight from multiple disciplines. The symposium connects graduate students, research faculty, and practitioners who do or want to do the work necessary for strengthening mental health communication.

  This FREE symposium features 12 speakers who are experts on mental health stigma, interventions, and psychopathology. To maximize outcomes, the symposium is designed as a small group meeting.  Each session has talks from three speakers and a roundtable discussion with speakers and other attendees. Each of the four sessions has three speakers, followed by a roundtable discussion between attendees and speakers.

  Research shows that health outcomes improve for people who have access to stable and affordable housing. Housing has been linked to better management of chronic diseases and can lead to reduced cost of medical care and better health outcomes. How can Minnesota align housing strategies with the health sector? What are the most critical pieces needed to reduce housing costs, decrease homelessness, and provide better, more affordable housing options? Are there any new and innovative models for low income housing?

  The Minnesota Public Health Association (MPHA)’s Annual Conference will be held on May 15 - 16, 2025 in-person at the Greysolon Ballroom by Blackwoods in Duluth, MN. The conference runs:

  • Thursday, May 15, from 10 AM to 5:15 PM
  • Friday, May 16, from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM

  A virtual component for attendees to view keynote, plenary, and concurrent sessions is available. Virtual participation links will be emailed to virtual attendees prior to the conference.

  Application is being made for health nursing, social work, and CHES/MCHES/CPH continuing education credits.

  Cancellation/Refund Policy:

  Registrations may be canceled and a refund issued, transferred to another attendee, or donated to the MPHA Scholarship Fund, if the request is received in writing to admin@mpha.net by May 1, 2025.

  You may also change between an in-person and virtual registration until May 1, 2025 and will be billed for any price difference. After May 1, 2025, no refunds will be issued. 

  Please note memberships included with conference registrations and donations that have been charged are nonrefundable.

  The hybrid conference will be held in-person at the Greysolon Ballroom by Blackwoods in Duluth, MN and virtually. Keynote and concurrent sessions will be recorded and photos will be taken at the conference.   Make plans now to join us in Duluth on June 9-10, 2025 for the 2025 Minnesota Rural Health Conference, hosted by the Minnesota Rural Health Association, the Minnesota Department of Health, Office of Rural Health and Primary Care, and the National Rural Health Resource Center. The conference, now in its 25th year, is the state’s premier event for rural health professionals — bringing together hundreds of rural health leaders from across the state for two days of learning, networking and sharing, with a focus this year on Workforce, Access to Care, Technology Solutions, Community Collaboration, and Finances and Operations. Our silver anniversary provides a unique opportunity to celebrate the progress and successes that Minnesota’s rural health professionals have made in creating a more equitable and inclusive health care system. The theme of the 2025 conference is We are Rural. Join the Journey!, which reflects our collective strength and resilience, and our shared commitment to building healthy communities throughout the state. A call for proposals was released Monday, December 16th. Here is the link to access the call. Proposal submissions are due by Monday, January 13, 2025. Information about conference sponsorships and exhibitor opportunities will be available in January. Registration for the event opens in April.
