The health of our nation is in critical condition. Billionaires and their allies in Congress and the current administration are trying to take away health care and steal billions of dollars in public health funding to boost corporate profits and give tax cuts to the wealthy.
Make no mistake, should the budget bill be implemented:
● 13.7 million people will be kicked off their health insurance.
● Millions of patients will be forced to delay care, seeking it through emergency rooms when they are sicker, or in the worst cases when it's too late and they may die.
● Hospitals, especially rural hospitals, will have their budgets severely cut, leading to major job cuts, worse staffing, service cuts, and even hospital closures. Remaining hospitals will be even more overwhelmed.
The current administration and Republicans in Congress are also dismantling public health agencies responsible for the care of our veterans, protecting the public from infectious diseases, and enforcing safety protections for working people. Hundreds of millions of people count on these public care resources, and cuts will cause catastrophic harm across the country. Our most vulnerable communities will be impacted first, but we all will suffer.
We are calling on members of Congress to heal our communities by funding care, not tax giveaways for billionaires. They must take action NOW to implement our Nurses’ Care Plan for America, which calls for:
● Stopping the massive proposed cuts to Medicaid, Medicare, VA, Social Security, and other social supports that patients rely upon to survive;
● Fighting for Medicare for All, a single-payer health care system that guarantees access to care for everyone at no cost;
● Protecting workers’ right to organize and form unions;
● Fighting cuts to public health and preparedness infrastructure that means the difference between life and death for patients and nurses;
● Working to transform the economy from one focused on profits to one focused on caring for our communities.
Nurses, other health care workers, patients, and our millions of supporters around the country are leading with a transformative vision for an economy based on care, not profits. This event is organized by National Nurses United (https://www.nationalnursesunited.org/)
