Bridging the Gap:
Public Health, Healthcare Access, and Latino Equity in Minnesota

Hispanic Heritage Month Panel Dicussion

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, join us for an impactful conversation examining the current state of public health and healthcare access in Minnesota. While Minnesota frequently ranks high in national health measures, Latino populations and other communities of color continue to face disproportionate systemic barriers and resource gaps.

This panel brings together leaders across epidemiology, academic research, and direct clinical care to analyze documented realities, highlight community-centered initiatives, and propose actionable solutions to achieve true health equity.

Moderated by Rodolfo Gutierrez, Executive Director of Hacer, and Co-Chair, MPHA Health Equity Committee.

Featured Panelists:

  • Mateo Frumholz, Former Epidemiologist, MDH and doctoral student in Epidemiology at UMN.
Bringing expertise in public health implementation and the strategic allocation of health resources within communities of color.

  • Rodolfo Batres, Co-Director, Program on Health Disparities Research, UMN
Leading state-level partnerships that connect community-based organizations (CBOs) with doctoral and postdoctoral researchers addressing cancer and health disparities.

  • Dr. Eduardo Medina, Physician, HealthPartners
Active coalition member collaborating across healthcare providers, the University of Minnesota, and local CBOs to assess healthcare access needs and deliver targeted resources.
