Keynotes

Howard H. Goldman

Howard H. Goldman, M.D., Ph.D., is Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Dr. Goldmans expertise is in evaluating mental health services and financing programs and policies. He is the director of the Network on Mental Health Policy Research, funded by the MacArthur Foundation. The Network is the sponsor of several studies on mental health financing. He also served as Principal Investigator of the study team conducting the Evaluation of the Implementation and Impact of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Parity in the Federal Employees Health Benefits program, sponsored by the government.


Maria Veronica Svetaz

Veronica Svetaz, M.D., MPH, is a family practice and adolescent health physician at Hennepin Family Care East Lake. She was instrumental in creating the WSCHS Aqui Para Ti Youth Development Clinic for Latino adolescents and their parents. In 2001, she participated in drafting the Consensus Statement on Health Care Transitions for Young Adults with Special Health Care Needs, which has now been approved as policy by the boards of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Academy of Family Physicians and the American College of Physicians-American Society of Internal Medicine. She is board certified in family practice and adolescent medicine and an Assistant Professor of Family Medicine and Community Health at the University of Minnesota School of Medicine.


Susan Abderholden

Susan Abderholden, MPH is Executive Director for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Minnesota. Under her direction, NAMI has grown dramatically in its mission, scope of programs, budget and credibility in the community. Her advocacy has created, nurtured and influenced extensive public policy initiatives at local, state and federal levels, actions that she hopes will change the hearts and minds of people on the subject of mental illness. Most recently, Sue has been a mainstay at the Minnesota Capitol, meeting with legislators and committees to introduce 12 bills focused on improving childrens mental health services.
