HPV Vaccination and Oropharyngeal Cancer: May 20 | 12:15-1p.m.

HPV-related oropharyngeal cancers are on the rise. 70% of these cancers could be prevented by the HPV vaccine. Kendall Tasche, M.D., will cover updated HPV vaccine guidelines for boys and girls with a focus on the role they can play in preventing HPV-related head and neck cancers.

HPV and Oropharyngeal Cancers: June 2 | 12:15-1p.m.

HPV is associated with six different cancers. Cancers in the back of the throat (oropharynx) traditionally have been caused by tobacco and alcohol, but recent studies show that 70% of cancers of the oropharynx may be linked to HPV. Kathryn M. Van Abel, M.D. will talk about the increase in HPV associated head and neck cancers and the most effective ways to treat them.

The Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE), in collaboration with the University of Florida Center for Arts in Medicine and ArtPlace America, announces the publication of, “Arts in Public Health,” a special supplement of its peer-reviewed journal Health Promotion Practice (HPP).

This important collection of papers advances the current knowledge about, skills needed for, and examples of work using the arts to advance individual and population health. 

Curated by guest co-editors Jill Sonke, Lourdes Rodriguez and Melissa Valerio-Shewmaker, the supplement features 18 commentaries, full-length articles, and calls to action from thought leaders, practitioners and researchers working to establish an evidence base and set best practices in the field of arts in public health. The Arts in Public Health supplement is available open access!

This is also the start of APHA's work with All of Us on the research side of things: In June we'll be scheduling a couple of trainings to learn one of the languages required to use the Research Hub, and by the end of June we'll have the call out for the next round of Affiliate funding opportunities, which are also going to be research-based this time around (details to come!). The Association for Training on Trauma and Attachment in Children (ATTACh) invites you to join us as a participant in a special training series Attachment and Trauma-Focused Therapy for Mental Health providers (ATFT-MH) and invites your parents and caregivers to participate in our Hope for Healing Training Series (HFH).

The ATFT-MH Training provides theoretical and practical knowledge for clinicians who are treating attachment and trauma issues in children and families. The initial course is 50 hours to include 30 hours of direct instruction and 20 hours of online reading and video presentation. There is an option for an additional 30 hours of credits earned through online video trainings and readings so that individuals are able to qualify for Registered Clinician status with ATTACh. There will be 40 direct contact hours within a virtual setting, including daily clinical practice opportunities.
