Bite-Sized Learning: Racial Equity Advocacy for White Allies

    Monday, February 01, 2021, 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Racial equity work is about progress, not perfection. What can white folks do to advance racial equity in their personal and professional lives? We will discuss strategies for overcoming internal, relational, and organizational racism. Whether you are new to racial justice or need a refresher to reaffirm your commitment, this will be a safe space to gather resources you can apply in your sphere of influence.

The Bite-Sized Learning events are designed by MCN’s Greater Minnesota team to keep us connected across the state. While the topics are chosen to meet the needs of Greater Minnesota, all are welcome here! Each event will have a short presentation along with plenty of time for networking and discussion on the designated topic. Bring your questions and expertise on the topic! With our cameras and microphones on, we can stay connected, learn, and support one another.

    Event Details

The event will be hosted on Zoom. You will need a computer and a phone as a back-up audio method.

Register for the event on Zoom.

The Challenges of Aging During COVID-19: Long Term Care, Vaccination and Isolation

    DATE & TIME
    January 15, 2021
    12:00 - 1:00 PM CST

    SPEAKERS

    Tricia Neuman
    Kaiser Family Foundation

    Vincent Mor
    Brown University

    Paul Kaplan
    Florida Blue

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the danger COVID-19 poses to older adults and people living in long-term care facilities has been of great concern. COVID-19 has claimed the lives of more than 125,000 long-term care residents and staff and 8 out of 10 COVID-19 deaths reported have been among adults aged 65 and older. Now that vaccines are being authorized and the CDC has recommended that older adults have early access, there is hope, but there are still challenges with distribution. It is also necessary to address the pandemic’s mental health impact on older adults, particularly loneliness and isolation. While older adults have reported less loneliness than their younger counterparts during the pandemic, about one in four report anxiety or depression due to the pandemic. Speakers will discuss:

    • Overview of COVID-19’s challenges to long-term care and the future implications for nursing homes
    • Vaccination and vaccine distribution challenges for older adults
    • A health plan’s efforts to address pandemic isolation and loneliness

The COVID-19 pandemic sparked international concern about vulnerabilities in the global supply chain and disrupted the production of crucial pharmaceutical ingredients around the world. In a strained, but resilient market, two promising vaccine candidates boasting nearly 95% effectiveness rose to the top of various formulations. While their sponsors seek Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) from the Food and Drug Administration, the rest of the American health care system is preparing for vaccine deployment and mass immunization. This briefing will explore how our supply chain must respond to manufacture millions of doses and then swiftly deliver them to administration sites. Panelists will also illustrate the steps these stakeholders might take in the first 48 hours after an Emergency Use Authorization is approved.
