Carol Berg and Janny Brust, both long-time members and past presidents of MPHA, retired from their full-time careers in January. Each of them made indelible marks on the public health fabric in Minnesota and will be missed. However, both have pledged to remain involved in public health pursuits in some capacity, including remaining connected to MPHA. We wish you both the best!

As our partner in newborn screening, we want share some exciting news with you—the Minnesota Newborn Screening Program is hosting its first ever booth at the Minnesota State Fair this year from Aug. 27-Sept. 7!

Over 1.8 million guests attended the 2014 MN State Fair. We will be featured at the HealthFair 11 building, which estimates a minimum of 80,000 visitors during the fair. This is an incredible opportunity to increase awareness about the difference newborn screening makes.

Our booth will highlight the stories of Minnesota families for whom newborn screening made a life-changing difference. We will be distributing free I’m a FAN of Newborn Screening fans that highlight seven different family stories, and we will also be giving out I NEWBORN SCREENING buttons to the amazing providers and stakeholders who visit our booth as a thank you for their role in making newborn screening one of the greatest public health achievements of the 20th century. Our booth will also feature a Made in Minnesota photo booth where fairgoers can snap a photo and enter a social media contest aimed at raising awareness about newborn screening. Be sure to check out the hashtags #NewbornScreening and #MadeInMinnesota to see all the fun photos and like your favorites!
