10 Essential Public Health Services Public Comment Period Extended

Guided by a Task Force and with input from more than 1,300 stakeholders, the Public Health National Center for Innovations (PHNCI) and the de Beaumont Foundation are pleased to release the proposed 10 Essential Public Health Services (EPHS) framework for public review and comment. Comments will be accepted from March 2 through April 2, 2020. Using this survey link, you can submit your comments on as many Essential Services as you would like and provide general comments on the framework. Comment Guidelines: Please confine your comments to the content of the draft. Grammatical errors or other typographical errors will be addressed prior to final publication in June 2020. Comments will be accepted through the survey only. No comments will be accepted via e-mail, fax, letter, or other format. The comment period has been extended through May 22, 2020.

From ACS-CAN: This week, we’re taking action! Though we can’t be together at the state capitol, we can use our voices together to fight cancer. We hope you join us for a virtual Week of Action starting tomorrow, Monday, April 27th until Friday, May 1st. With your help, we’ll be advocating for legislation to raise the tobacco age of sale in Minnesota to 21, remove barriers to breast and cervical cancer treatment coverage, and ensure that all Minnesotans have access to clinical trials. Visit our Week of Action resource page for suggestions on actions you can take every day this week and talking points, too. We encourage you to get creative! Certain days this week, you’ll get emails with an action alert and a call alert, so we can contact lawmakers in a specific way together. Review the Week of Action resource page. Join School of Public Health (SPH) Dean John Finnegan as he talks with documentary stars and SPH faculty Michael Osterholm, Marizen Ramirez, Timothy Beebe, and Jeff Bender about their focus on the coronavirus and its impact.

In public health we are frequently pulled in multiple directions and oftentimes lose our way and our sense of purpose. It’s like getting stuck in a giant hairball! In order to take care of ourselves and better serve others, it is important to pause and explore why we choose to do the work we do. This webinar will guide you through a process of creating your career philosophy which will help you step out of the giant hairball, and navigate the complexity of the public health profession.

This webinar, co-hosted by the School of Public Health (SPH) Office of Alumni Relations and the Career and Professional Development Center, is presented by Vic Massaglia. Vic is the Director of the Career & Professional Development Center for the School of Public Health at the University of Minnesota. (He's also a MPHA member!) He has extensive experience in leadership, career, and organizational development in both the public and private sectors. He’s on a mission to connect with and inspire people in transition so they can make a positive impact in the world. He approaches his work with compassion by developing his craft of facilitation, coaching, and teaching so people will discover their gifts and become their best selves. He is deeply passionate about social justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion and believes he is at his best when he is serving others. What role does equity play in COVID-19 planning and response?

The Minnesota Council of Nonprofits (MCN) is hosting its fourth call with The Governor's Office originally scheduled for Monday, April 20th has been moved to May 4, 11:30 am - 12:15 pm. The call will focus on how equity and accessibility play a role in planning for and responding to the COVID-19 pandemic. 

MCN members and nonmembers are welcome to register and join. Past recordings of the calls are available at MCN's COVID-19 resource page.
