The MPHA Policy & Advocacy Committee choses priorities based on member feedback, current engagement in coalitions or other external groups, and political feasibility.  Legislative priorities are a guide for the committee, and not meant to preclude action taken in support of other policies. 


2017-2018 Legislative Priorities

  • Support efforts to reduce health inequities
  • Support public health funding – including increasing local public health grant funds and maintaining Statewide Health Improvement Partnership funding
  • Support gun violence prevention efforts
  • Support environmental health efforts to ensure healthy families, clean water, clean air, and a healthy climate

2016 Legislative Priorities

    • Support Gun Violence Prevention efforts
    • Support Vaccine Education and Promotion efforts
    • Support a $6 million investment in for Safe Routes to School infrastructure
    • Support a statewide comprehensive multi-modal transportation package that includes significant new funding for active transportation
    • Maintain Statewide Health Improvement Program funding
