How to get Involved?


Please contact one of the following committee chairs to get involved with a MPHA committee!

Policy/Advocacy Committee

-  Chairs: Melanie Ferris (mferris@mpha.net) & Alison Moore (amoore@mpha.net)

- Meeting Time: Second Tuesday of each month (4:00-5:30pm) at the Wilder Center in St. Paul.

- The Wilder Center is located on the corner of University Avenue and Lexington Parkway (451 Lexington Parkway North, St. Paul)

- NOTE: Committee meetings in March - June 2010 will be held at the Minnesota Council of Health Plans (Court International Building, 2550 University Ave W, Suite 255 South, St. Paul, MN)

Membership Committee

-          Chair: David Johnson (david.johnson@ci.minneapolis.mn.us)

-          Meeting Time:  Contact committee chair for information on meeting times

-          Committee charge: Develop MPHA membership that is diverse, and substantial in number and in interaction.  The tasks of this committee include, but are not limited to:

-          Recruiting new members through creative methods (letters to other org lists; canvas etc)

-          Retaining members through good communication, needs survey’s etc.

-          Identifying ways to interact with members

-          Oversee production and distribution of membership directory in conjunction with the annual meeting

-          Be familiar with membership categories and guidelines for membership in the by-laws

-          Develop and update membership materials

-          Identify a person(s) to call and welcome new members

-          Identify and respond to the need for volunteer training and development including an annual Volunteer Training and appreciation meeting.

-          Find ways to recognize and reward volunteers

-          Identify and maintain volunteer accountability model.

-          Be an active ombudsman on behalf of volunteers to the Governing Council

-          Support the mentoring program at the University of Minnesota to allow members an opportunity to be mentors to students.

 

Communications Committee

-          Chair: Scott Harpin (sharpin@mpha.net)  

-          Meeting Time: Contact committee chair for information on meeting times

-          Committee charge: Manage communications with members through the following vehicles:

-          MPHA Update the MPHA on-line newsletter. 

-          Action Alerts prepared by the policy committee to mobilize members on various policy related activities.  An Action Alert must be approved by the policy committee chair, or a member of the executive committee of MPHA before it is sent to the entire membership.

-          MPHA Web Page www.mpha.net, is a formal vehicle for sharing information with members. 

-          Manage all communication with other key stakeholders

-          Press Releases -work with all other committees in the association to determine the need for press releases.  Other committee chairs are responsible for providing information to the Communications Chairs, and for having received prior approval from the Executive Committee or the President for any press release.

-          Opinion Editorials -work with all other committees in the association to determine the need for press releases.  Other committee chairs are responsible for providing information to the Communications Chairs, and for having received prior approval from the Executive Committee or the President for any press release.

-           Nations Health – provide articles and information to the APHA newsletter

 

Leadership/Nominating Committee

-    Chairs: Erica Fishman (erica.fishman@state.mn.us) & Linda Olson Keller (olson173@umn.edu)

-          Meeting Time: Contact committee chairs for more information

-          Committee charge:  Help the MPHA Governing Council and Committees identify and nominate potential leaders in MPHA.  Tasks include, but are not limited to:

-          Create and review succession guidelines for MPHA

-          Establish a slate of individuals who meet the qualifications for leadership positions (Governing Council and Committee Chairs).

-          Provide pre-election publicity for the MPHA membership with detailed description of candidates, their qualifications, and their positions regarding significant organizational issues

-          Make recommendations to the MPHA Governing Council regarding appointment candidates.

-          Develop materials to publicize the awards process of MPHA

-          Recruit nominations for awards
